The Falafel started in 1999 with a cart at the Conde.
Ytzhak, the King of Falafel, decided to come to the Caribbean behind his great passion: drums. He also wanted to start a business where he could sell his favorite food … you guessed it: falafel.
Most Dominicans had never heard of these magic balls, so he decided to offer falafel balls to everyone who passed him by.
He didn’t speak any Spanish … well actually “hello”, “thank you” and a few bad words don’t count. What he did count was his kindness, sympathy, and how tasty his falafels have always been. This is how he was gaining clients and friends little by little.
He was carried away by his dream of coming forward … and here we are today.
Along the way, we moved to the space where we are now in the Billini with Sánchez and we made a beautiful patio where people could sit and eat quietly under the stars.
For a few years we operated S Bar, on the corner … a whole generation passed by … how many stories! But I will leave that for another day.
Ytzhak was flattened (his wife and mother say it seems that he was born in Baní), he married Carolina, a beautiful Dominican woman (this is written by her, so she is modest too) and they had two beautiful and energetic children.
Today, Falafel is in its full teens. He wants to find out what his role is in life and what he really wants to be when he grows up. After a few tantrums he is on the way to reinventing himself. So expect many surprises, changes and improvements in the times to come.
For now we have included some new things:
* We have Reiki classes in our Goico Room at least once a month.
* Intuitive Collage Workshops several times a year.
* Kabbalah classes
* Drum circle at least once a month.
* Art exhibitions
* And so many beautiful things we have thought that we would not have a lifetime to do them … but here we go … one day at a time.
We would love for you to come and say hello. We are happy to serve you, listen to your suggestions and even have a coffee together one day if we agree.
