Our extensive travels and passion for sustainability and nature have led us to create our little haven, Samana Ecolodge. It’s our pleasure to share our dream with you!
With the dream of not only having a natural life out in the beautiful caribbean island, we built this creative place with love in hope to inspire those that come to visit, to also live a more conscious lifestyle when returning home.
The lodge is completely independant with solar panels, wells and fresh spring streams running through the land. We have a farm area with an abundance of fruits, vegtables and spices. Everyday fresh food is brought from the land to the kitchen and served in the Restaurant — you can’t get more organic than that!
In 2016, we (Ben and Xio) decided to follow our dreams and build an off grid ecolodge. We came across the pintoresque town of El Limon on our search through the Dominican Republic and fell in love with the landscape, beaches, waterfalls and the natural Dominican village. We found the perfect plot of land and immediately started building. Every stone, crop and flower has been laid by us and some enthusiastic volunteers. Every stick, palm roofing or wood has been bought locally putting money back into the community, creating jobs and opportunity in the town of El Limón. After two years of hard work we had finally created a peaceful and quiet place where customers can switch off and get closer to nature.
For the nature lovers, the animals we are likely to see daily are; the hummingbirds flying around in the mornings, the birds of pray flying over the lodge including eagles, some vultures and owls at night, horses living on the field, cows and pigs, frogs and geckos and much more. Living in direct contact with nature means we also have to expect small critters, some bats, bugs or even small spiders… but it’s important to know there aren’t any poisonous plants, bugs or animals (one of the reasons we picked the country!)
So please be confident in knowing nothing in this lodge can or will hurt you, apart from too many cocktails in the bar from the night before! Also, expect to see beautiful sunsets and sunrises, and spend your nights stargazing in one of our rock pools.
We are located in the pintoresque town of El Limón in the Samaná Península. Just 15 minutes from the Surf town of Las Terrenas and 30 minutes from the capital of Samaná, we offer the perfect haven hidden just behind El Limon’s famous natural rock pool.
